New Years was great as always because it's a time to reflect on the past year and all the wonderful memories and things that were accomplished and a time to look forward to the year ahead to dream of all the possibilities. It's also great because of course New Years Eve is our wedding anniversary. This year we celebrated 4 years of marriage (8 years together) by going to one of our favorite places "At My Place" a dueling piano bar/restaurant that opened up a few months ago. The food is AMAZING and the entertainment well is entertaining to say the least. They presold tickets at $100 per person and that included a 5 course meal, unlimited drinks and the musical entertainment and a champagne toast at midnight. But before we headed off to dinner we decided to take advantage of the fact that Nana & Papa came over at 5pm and so we went to see the movie "YES MAN" with Jim Carrey which was pretty funny. After the movie we headed over to At My Place fashionably late at 7:30pm. I wish I would have had someone take our picture upon arrival because there is a red carpet and velvet ropes to greet you at the entrance.
Upon arrival we were sat at our table where the first course of food began with our choice of 4 different appetizers all while a saxophone player serenaded us.
Second course was soup & salad, third course was your choice of 3 different pastas, 4th course was your choice of 4 different kinds of meat entrees and the 5th & final was a Belgium Chocolate Souffle. Sounds like a ton of food and it was but what was great was they served everything in "Tapa's" (appetizer) size portions so it gave you the opportunity to try multiple dishes at each course and if you liked something you just kept asking for more of it until you got your fill and were ready to move onto the next course. Combined we probably tried 12 or so dishes so it was a great way to sample their regular menu. My favorite was the Spinach Salad and the 5 cheese Ravioli. YUM! Mike told me I should have taken pictures of each course but I didn't think about it until the end and only managed to get a picture of the souffle.
The piano guys came out about 9pm to start their show and immediately they entertained us with their energy & humor. I have to give it up to these guys they played straight through until we left at 1am...no breaks nothing. Constant singing & dancing it was a blast. They sang everything from Metalica to Elton John to 2 Pac and it all sounded great. They would change the words up and add in their funny one liners and call people up to embarrass them it was great. That was until we saw one of our friends from church who just so happened to be there slip one of the piano players a $20 whispered something in his ear and then pointed at us. We knew something was going to happen and we both started getting nervous.
Not too much later they called out that it was our anniversary on the mic and asked us to come up front and center on the dance floor. Mike and I must have been beat red wondering what the heck was about to happen. We were pleasantly surprised when he asked us if we knew the tune "Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes". We said shoot we have a 2 year old we got this one. Well the trick was I had to put my hands behind my back and Mike had to touch my body parts as they sang the song. Next was my turn. Mike puts his hands behind his back and he starts singing.... "Head, Shoulders.....CRACK & SAC" what?!? That's not the song....So yes I had to molest my husband in a crowd full of strangers. It was pretty funny though. They were singing "CRACK & NOSE" trying to get me to touch his butt then nose it was funny. We had a good laugh and realized we probably got off pretty lucky there. We rang in the new year with a champagne toast and some dancing and headed home around 1am. They really did it right with the pre-sell of tickets space was limited they didn't pack us all in there like sardines there was ample room and when it came time to dance there was room for everyone out on the dance floor. Even though we didn't really drink anything I thought we got more than our money's worth and of course there were those who took full advantage of the all you can drink...YIKES it was like Cougar central there for a little bit =)
My Mom & Billy were nice enough to come to our house to babysit Savannah because her neighbors were going to have a party and we didn't want the princess' sleep to be disturbed. So if that wasn't nice enough we woke up the next morning New Years Day to BRUNCH prepared by "Chef Nana", Served by "Butler Billy" and our waitress was "Sassy Savvy".
We had champagne & OJ, omelets prepared how ever you liked with all the fixings, bacon & sour dough bread. DELICIOUS! I have the best mommy on the planet and I am so blessed that she is so selfless and caring. She takes such good care of us all. New Years afternoon Daniel & Amy brought the girls over and we watched some football and the girls played.
Then we headed over to Jason & Aimee's for a little USC vs. Penn State party where we ate way too much food and enjoyed the company of some of our favorite people. Savannah & Janae were so cute together they had such a good time. They played from noon until 6:30pm didn't fight once, didn't argue over sharing toys it was so cute. Savannah was so happy to have someone to play "Ring Around The Roses" with. She will play with her dolls and sing "hashes, hashes we all fall down". So cute!
The 2nd of January we finally got the trampoline that we had ordered for Savannah for Christmas but it had been back ordered.
I didn't realize it was out in the front courtyard until 11pm so Mikey and I stayed up until 1am putting it together. Mikey was so cute as soon as he heard Savannah wake up in the morning he jumped out of bed to come watch her reaction when she saw it. Such a cute big brother. She of course loved it and has been jumping in it ever since. We actually left it in the living room for almost a week before moving it into the backyard but this thing is huge and holds up to 150 pounds so we will get a lot of use out of it and hopefully a lot of years. Mikey made the decision last month that he wants to live with us full time now so it's been a real pleasure having him here and you know Savannah has been on cloud 9. I feel bad sometimes because she is like "bubba, bubba" non stop but he is so great with her. It's nice because he has his own room so when he is over it he just retreats to his own space and we respect that and keep Savannah out of his hair while he is up in his room.
Miranda has been able to call twice since Christmas and she sounds so good. She misses everyone but is so positive and so optimistic and happy with the program that she wants to stay. I am so proud of her and the transition she is making. She said she is really seeking a relationship with God and desires to hear Him speak to her heart. She is reciting scripture and is just so transformed already and she hasn't even been there a month. We will have our monthly visitation this weekend with her and she is really missing her Savannah so even though I hadn't planned on taking her up with us I am going to because she wants to see her so bad. It's a 3 hour one way trip to Bakersfield and Savannah HATES her car seat, crying just on the way to the grocery store. We are hoping with Grandma in the backseat that she will do better on the drive so fingers crossed. It will be 6 hours of misery if not! But it will be worth it because as much as Miranda misses her, Savannah also misses her Mimi.
